Over the last 5 months – as I’ve attempted to live greener without changing my whole lifestyle drastically – I have learnt a lot along the way. From shopping short cuts and lazy vegan recipes, to informative research on the issues our world currently faces; I have shared my experience and ideas with all you lovely people!
But one thing I have yet to conquer is my battle with waste; something which fills me with dread every time I’m faced with yet another statistic about the pollution caused by our own consumerist habits. I have shared a few waste reduction ideas over the last few months, but food waste is still high on my agenda, so I have taken the pledge to be involved in this year’s Zero Waste Week; in a bid to kick start this battle with the bin!
Now in its 7th year, the week will be running from the 1st to the 7th September (less than two weeks from now!) and the theme is “One More Thing”. What one more thing could YOU do to reduce the waste you send to landfill?
Not only is Zero Waste Week about encouraging everyone to pledge just “One More Thing” and think about what they throw away; it’s also a great way for people to share their tips and short cuts to making zero waste easy and fun! And always one to practice what she preaches, the wonderful Rachelle – Zero Waste Week founder – has jam packed the website with lots of advice and inspiration to get you started.
But not only have I pledged to do go zero waste – in which I will be battling with food waste in particular – I have also agreed to be a Zero Waste Ambassador; in which I will be blogging everyday about my experience and sharing top tips!
As a vegan who eats an insane amount of fruit and veg, my “one thing” is to make use of 100% of my produce; from peelings, pips and stones, to saggy salad and hard inedible ends. I’ll be blogging everyday with some lazy inspiration to help you stick to your pledges too!
So what are you waiting for? Get your pledge in now and get planning!! Remember: its only one extra thing you need to change, how hard can that be? 😛
Thanks for a wonderful write up. I love your enthusiasm and energy for this and I know I’m going to learn helps from you during the week. Can’t wait to share with you and learn from your experience 🙂

Yes I have made my pledge and shared it on my blog – I really struggle with food waste too but I am getting better, I have gone back to planning our weekly eats and find less stuff goes off before we can eat it that way. I have been busy making Rhubarb Jam with my glut this year. Looking forward to your tips and hints in Zero Waste Week.
