Zero Waste Giveaway: Win BRITA Fill & Go Goodies

For those of you who have been reading A Lazy Girl Goes Green for a while, you may have detected a slight theme in the kind of new products which get me all excited and shouting to the hill tops; they are either made for zero waste living, or for eating and drinking. So when I find a shiny new gadget for zero waste drinking or eating, well, I’m in lazy green heaven!

You also may or may not know that I have in the past had an irrational distaste for tap water (very princess of me, I know…) and, as someone who carries a water bottle with me everywhere, I have found success in the past with the BRITA Fill & Go Water Filter Bottle as part of my Zero Waste Foodie Toolkit.

Interestingly, just like me, despite having very good quality tap water available in every home, a recent OnePoll research study by BRITA found that nearly 30% of UK adults admit to using bottled water at home. One third of those questioned also confessed that they bought bottled water but didn’t believe they contribute to pollution because they recycle! With the UK alone using nearly 7.7 billion single use plastic water bottles this year, this is seriously adding to the rising tide of plastic pollution.

Well, my lovely lazy greenies, I’m very excited to inform you that in celebration of the success of BRITA’s plastic challenge month in June – as well as this month’s Plastic July AND Septembers Zero Waste Week – I have a BRITA Fill & Serve, and 3 BRITA Fill & Go’s to giveaway!

These nifty water filter bottles, with integrated activated carbon filtration, transforms tap water into great tasting, freshly filtered BRITA water. Wherever you are and whenever you are on the go. Just insert the BRITA Filter Disc and fill up with tap water. No more single use plastic bottles318125-Brita-Fill-Go-group-shot.jpg

The zero waste bottles and jug are BPA free, and help to significantly reduce chlorine, other taste impairing substances and fine solids. The BRITA Filter Disc delivers four weeks of fresh, great tasting water and saves heaps of money on buying water already bottled.

  1. I’m not really much of a “gadget” person, but here goes:

    1) Bamboo toothbrush – This is a new thing for me but, in my defense, I try to buy local as much as possible, and Neath is not well known for it’s eco-friendly shops! However, the small but ethical “Fabuluzz” just opened in town!! I was landed to find one of these in stock 🙂

    2) Menstrual cup – had one since I was 17 and it still baffles me how many people don’t know what they are!!

    3) Freezer – use it properly, especially with a food plan, and food waste can be more or less eliminated – just wish I had a bigger one!

  2. Well I’m going to have to enter as I’d love to win. Here’s some ideas for eating and drinking on the go sans waste that I do:

I have a tiny glass bottle with a spray top on it that is filled with water and essential oils for sticky hands and faces (it’s only about 20mls so is lightweight) – this saves on disposable napkins and buying plastic bottles of hand sanitiser.

I found a fantastic stainless steel container, a tiffin I think it’s called. it’s an Indian idea and fab for taking layered foods that you want to keep separate. I love that it’s plastic free so I don’t need to worry about leaching nasties into the food.

If you’re taking a sandwich then a wrap ‘n’ mat is brill. They last for ever, so despite being plastic coated are great at reducing the need for products like clingfilm or sandwich bags – It’s nice because it acts like a mini tablecloth (I’m a bit icky about putting my food direct onto a public table!). You can even make your own if you feel so inclined – ambassador Vicky made one a few years ago and shared a tutorial on her blog; I think she made it out of old carrier bags – genius!

  3. I’m sorry if my answers are not the best. I am new to reducing waste and plastic.
    1) A reusable bottle like a mason jar for smoothies or juices made from wilting fruit or veg.
    2) An infusing bottle for infusing water with fruit (I don’t like tap water either).
    3) This might be a stupid idea but what about an Indian tiffin box for food? Like an insulated one?

Again, sorry if these answers are rubbish, I’m completely new to this 🙂

  5. 1. A fabric napkin for mopping up or using as a lap-tablecloth if you haven’t got somewhere clean to eat;

    2. Reusable cutlery – I started carrying a spork in my handbag when my toddler was going through an obsession with avocadoes and had a paddy because I didn’t have a knife or spoon for her to eat one on the bus!

    3. Reusable sandwich bags in a variety of sizes – really useful at markets, bakeries and so forth.

  6. 1) Beeswrap or homemade waxed cloth, for wrapping sandwiches and sturdy muffins/cakes.

    2) Smash Nude Food Movers Yoghurt Mover – it has a gel-filled compartment which you can freeze before filling with yoghurt or fruit or whatever you want to keep cold. It is plastic but it’s BPA and phthalate free. (I think I spelt that right!) I found mine in Tesco, they’re great if you make homemade yoghurt or if you have a big tub you want to portion out into reasonable servings over the week.

    3) A reusable travel mug, to save on paper cups.

  7. I would add Kilner bottles, metal funnel and muslin clothes so you can use them to make homemade lemonade. Super tasty and the left over lemon rind can be used to keep cats off the garden. 🙂

  8. 1. Reusable Bamboo Towels. Replaces wash cloths and dusters. Great for cleaning. Very absorbable. Washable.
    2. Colloidal silver spray – my portable first aid kit in a glass bottle. Use on spots, rashes, sore throats, nasal irritation, sore ears, eczema, dirty hands, even to wipe surfaces, etc. Re use spray bottle when finished.
    3. Stone deodorant as they last forever. 🙂

  9. I would say a cutlery roll so you can take your own cutlery every where, shopping bags for your handbags so you never have to use plastic ones and the last one would be lots of flannels or make your own pieces of cloth to remove make up.
Great blog and a great prize x
