What to Put in Your Zero Waste Foodie kit

Well my lovely green beans its now officially a month to go until Zero Waste Week! That can only mean one thing: a full week packed full of nifty tips and advice on how to cut wastage at home, as well as confessional stories from me attempting to cut down on consumerism ,and thinking out side of the box for zero waste solutions.

Last month I ran a Zero Waste competition in anticipation of the week, with  a BRITA Fill & Serve, and 3 BRITA Fill & Go’s up for grabs for anyone who could give me three of their favourite tools for a zero waste foodie kit.

Well the comp is now closed and I’m happy to announce the following winners:

  2. Freezer – “use it properly, especially with a food plan, and food waste can be more or less eliminated – just wish I had a bigger one!”
  3. Tiny glass bottle with a spray top on it
  4. Wrap ‘n’ mat
  5. A small shopping bag to keep in handbag.
  6. Bicarbonate of Soda
  7. Thermos mug
  8. Stainless steel water bottle
  9. Stainless steel lunch box
  10. A reusable bottle like a mason/kilner jar
  11. An infusing bottle
  12. Indian tiffin box
  13. A fabric napkin
  14. Reusable cutlery
  15. Reusable sandwich bags in a variety of sizes
  16. Beeswrap or homemade waxed cloth
  17. Smash Nude Food Movers Yoghurt Mover
  18. Reusable travel mug
  19. Metal funnel
  20. Muslin clothes
  21. Reusable Bamboo Towels.
  22. Reusable straws
  23. Picnic mat which doubles as a bag

But the ideas did’t stop at tools for the kitchen! Here’s a sneak peek at a few extra zero waste ideas which came through in the entries:  

  1. Bamboo toothbrush flannels or make your own pieces of cloth to remove make up.
  2. Menstrual cup
  3. Cloth cotton rounds
  4. Textile sanitary products
  5. Shampoo bars
  6. Stone deodorant “they last forever.”
  7. Colloidal silver spray – “my portable first aid kit in a glass bottle. Use on spots, rashes, sore throats, nasal irritation, sore ears, eczema, dirty hands, even to wipe surfaces, etc.”
