Vegan Recipe: Chocolate Chai Cheesecake

Chocolate. Chai. Cheesecake. Three of of my favourite things merged into one seriously naughty dessert. Alliteration never sounded tastier!

Having spent the last couple of weeks wading through the boxes I stored whilst travelling, I came across a very special box the other day which filled me with instant happiness: the parcel I sent to myself from India. Due to a limited budget, I had selected only a few small items to purchase and send home.

Naturally the box contained things like incense, fabrics and artwork, but there was one special thing which I knew I could never quite replicate at home: traditional Masala Chai spices! Continue reading Vegan Recipe: Chocolate Chai Cheesecake

Why a Yoga Trek in Nepal Should be on Your Bucket List

When I was 17, one of my best friends and I sat down and created a “things to do before I’m 30” bucket list. Consisting of life pressing issues such as kissing the boys we fancied, flying the parental nest and learning to drive, the list also featured life affirming tasks and beautiful places to visit around the world. Trekking in Nepal was one of the first things to do on my list.

As it happened, it took until I was exactly 30 years old to finally tick off a trek in Nepal from my list, but boy was it worth the wait! Just 7 months after the disastrous 2015 Earthquake which killed almost 9, 000 people and devastated huge areas of the Kathmandu Valley and beyond, me and two of my closest friends embarked on a journey of a lifetime.  Continue reading Why a Yoga Trek in Nepal Should be on Your Bucket List

Nourishing Vegan Avocado, Lime and Coconut Face Mask

Ooops I’ve done it again. I have promised to be better at posting blogs, only to get distracted by sunny Australian beaches, lazy Game of Thrones nights and wine…Sorry!

But on the plus side, my lazy winter procrastinations (yes it is pretty cold here in Sydney) has meant that I have been testing out a vast variety of home made pamper treatments and have discovered this tropical blend.

During a long weekend break to Byron Bay with my lovely friend Kate, we binged on episodes of Lost, windy beach walks and this AMAZING avocado, lime and coconut yogurt face mask. We honestly got so addicted we indulged 3 nights in a row, and left the party beach atmosphere of Byron looking more glowing and refreshed than when we arrived! Eco Driving: Why Green Cars Still Aren’t Commonplace

For the environmentally conscious – few things can feel as guilty as owning a petrol powered vehicle. Yet, for most of us, this is just the reality we live in. Petrol based cars are still the most common vehicle, even though hybrids and purely electric cars are actively available.

Why is this the case? If electric vehicles represent a greener way to drive – and are supposedly cheaper to run, too – why are we so slow in mass-adopting this new technology?

Here mechanic, and passionate green bean, Giles Kirkland shares his know how on the green car industry and why it hasn’t yet gone that extra mile:

36 Twitter Accounts That’ll Help you Live Greener

I’ll begin this post by putting my hands up and admitting I am an intermittent and inconsistent Twitter user. I have weeks when I’m completely on it and post regularly, and there are other times when I forget it even exists. Personally I see this approach to social media as healthy; it should simply be something you dip in and out of in between living life, not something you are glued to every second of the day. BUT as a blogger, I am aware that I’m missing a trick.

Twitter is an awesome way to stay on the ball with the people and topics which interest you, and can be an incredible resource to accessing advice, information and inspiration for living a little more sustainably. And its not just newsfeeds and hashtags you can follow to help your green journey. There are also heaps of weekly debates, Q&As and discussion hours – such as #makedoandmendhour and #veganhour – where you can share (or steal) great ideas and easy green hacks from other like minded tweeters.

With this in mind, I thought I would share 20 of my favourite Twitter accounts, for anyone interested in sustainability, veganism or green and ethical living.

Plastic Bottle Fashion

Along with my purse, phone and keys, I carry my bobble water bottle wherever I go. It’s not necessarily that I’m a big water drinker (in fact, sometimes I can go all day without drinking any at all) but I never want to be caught short and forced to buy bottled water from the shop. Ever since I discovered more about the devastating effects of plastic pollution,  the idea of buying water bottled when its readily available in taps makes no sense to me.

That said, we all get caught out once in a while, and the fact is that billions of plastic bottles continue to be produced worldwide. But what if these bottles could be recycled, and re-appropriated into something useful? Well I recently came across a company who is trying to salvage our plastic bottles, and turn them into things we can wear and use; and a lot of big brands are in on it.

Understanding: Palm Oil

In an interview with the Ecologist last week, one of my favourite green cleaning brands, Ecover, revealed their use of algal oil (a synthetic biology oil) in replacement of palm oil. This sparked my curiosity. Why would a company who pride themselves on using “plant and mineral based ingredients…without those chemical nasties” switch from naturally grown Palm oil to a genetically modified organism (GMO) ingredient? We have all heard of the issues surrounding palm oil, but is it really that bad?

So I did a little bit of digging (lazy girl style) to get to the bottom of this natural, but controversial oil; and made a few discoveries of my own very close to home… Continue reading Understanding: Palm Oil
