Review: Pure Chimp Cleanser

I’m excited. It’s Saturday morning, my cold has gone and this morning I received a parcel containing something free! Always a good start to the weekend…

The reason I hadn’t paid for the Pure Chimp Super Cleanser inside, was because I’d managed to break my spell of never winning anything in my life, and won a competition with The Vegan Society earlier this month. And of all the competitions I’ve entered in the past – from holidays and cars, to  electric powered cat hair removers – I feel justice has been served by winning what I may well now define as my new favourite cleanser!  Continue reading Review: Pure Chimp Cleanser

Green Consumer: Eco yoga mats

This week we had friends staying with their gorgeous beagle pup, much to the dismay of our two cats!! Wonderfully friendly and generally well behaved, we didn’t think twice to leave him behind for the evening while we soaked up the Pixies at the Eden sessions (who were amazing by the way!) Unfortunately, poor old pups wasn’t so keen on chilling at home alone, and had a little moshing session of his own with one of our old yoga mats. As any pet owner will know, these things happen (you should see what my cats get up to!); and we weren’t precious about the mat.

But this did get me thinking about buying a new yoga mat, and I have been particularly keen to explore the world of green, or eco, yoga mats for a while now. But what makes a yoga mat eco? I looked at 5 of the top green yoga mats to find out…. Continue reading Green Consumer: Eco yoga mats

Understanding: Palm Oil

In an interview with the Ecologist last week, one of my favourite green cleaning brands, Ecover, revealed their use of algal oil (a synthetic biology oil) in replacement of palm oil. This sparked my curiosity. Why would a company who pride themselves on using “plant and mineral based ingredients…without those chemical nasties” switch from naturally grown Palm oil to a genetically modified organism (GMO) ingredient? We have all heard of the issues surrounding palm oil, but is it really that bad?

So I did a little bit of digging (lazy girl style) to get to the bottom of this natural, but controversial oil; and made a few discoveries of my own very close to home… Continue reading Understanding: Palm Oil

Exploring South Devon: Farms, Food, Family & Wine

This week I decided to take an impromptu week off work; to make the most of the unexpected sun we’ve been having in Cornwall, and to have some much needed lie-ins!  But before I delved in to the sun, sea and surf of Cornwall, I made a trip back home to Devon to see family for a couple of days. Continue reading Exploring South Devon: Farms, Food, Family & Wine

Lazy Green Consumer: Natural Toothpaste

A huge part of my going green journey so far has been about swapping some everyday essential items to more natural, greener versions; something which takes little time or effort, but could ultimately be more beneficial for the planet and my health.

Toothpaste in particular is something I have been experimenting with over the last couple of months, trying to find something that is natural, ethical and – more importantly – actually works! Continue reading Lazy Green Consumer: Natural Toothpaste

Green washing: soap nuts and cold water!

When I moved house recently (the carnage of which was documented here) I learnt the downside of taking in second hand equipment; discovering that the very cheap (and very old) second hand washing machine purchased on Gumtree did not fit the pipes installed in my brand new kitchen. No hot water meant no washing! Continue reading Green washing: soap nuts and cold water!

I heart my Juicer!

Happy Wednesday lazy green people! we are so close to the weekend I can smell it…

I just wanted to do a quick post to share some big news…. that I am officially in love with my new juicer! This was an early birthday present and I have been road testing it for the last month; before I announced my official verdict on juicing. I was a little curious, yet dubious, about how practical it was; and more importantly, how long it would take before my interest waned from the effort of juicing AND cleaning it out!  Continue reading I heart my Juicer!

Lazy Seasonal Eating

Last month in my Lazy Organic Eating blog I briefly touched upon the concept of eating seasonally. And in my traditional Trudi style, I forgot to explore this further and define what I actually meant. In fact, I realised that I have been talking about eating seasonally for months without really knowing why myself; let alone what’s actually in season!!
